As far as my wardrobe, I tend to wear black on the outside because black is how I feel on the inside. But as far as my home decorating aesthetic, i am all about colour! Although I had to settle for residing in an apartment with beige carpet, you will not find a white wall in it. My color scheme consists of Benjamin Moore's "neon celery" in the living room/dining area with "Florida Keys blue" accents, "citrus blast" in the kitchen, "Jamaican aqua" in the hallway, and "early sunrise pink" in the bedroom. And I have managed to trendily furnish my digs on a shoestring. The only piece of furniture I have spent more than $100 on is the Ikea sofa that I salvaged with a stylish stretch cover after my cats tore it to shreds. The rest of my furniture was either rescued from the trash by my ex-husband and stylized with contact paper, or I got it on sale at Target, Walmart, and dollar stores (in fact the chair above cost $17 at Walmart online).
Although I have only recently had the guts to lapse into pretense and refer to the 1950's as"mid-century," this is my favourite furnishings era thanks to the husband and wife design team of Charles and Ray Eames. My new work-safe porn outlet is to look up "Eames Era" in ebay and scroll through the hip retro assortment of lighting fixtures, ashtrays, clocks, and chairs that come up in the search results. Check it out!!
